Casino Bern

A variety of furniture for several restaurants and custom solutions

Within the context of a general refurbishment of Casino Bern, a listed building, Atelier Zürich redesigned and refurbished the entire catering area on the ground floor with 5 restaurant concepts. In just a few months from the contract being awarded by the civic community of Bern to delivery, Girsberger realized a large number of highly diverse furniture pieces and furnishing solutions.

Especially noteworthy here is the Zunfttisch, or Guilds Table, crafted from native oak, with a diameter of 280 cm and space for 14 people.

Other areas are the Salon d’Or, the Bistrobar, the restaurant and the Japanese Chef’s Table. Upholstered pieces, cushions and pouffes were covered in velour, decorated with elaborate piping and trimmed with braiding and fringing. Other pieces were upholstered and fitted with draperies, and custom items were realized such as the reception desk in the shape of a traditional guild drum and mirrors in the toilet areas.

Particular attention was also paid to the realization of the height-adjustable Japanese Chef's Table, with a heavy tabletop in cross-cut oak, in combination with the wall panelling made from embossed copper sheets – further challenges within this wide-ranging, multifaceted and complex project.
