Furniture for ETH Zurich's new development and laboratory building
With its new GLC building, ETH Zurich gained a modern development and laboratory building. This is now dedicated to research at the interface between health sciences and technology. In cooperation with Girsberger, a range of furniture was developed specifically for the building. Lounge areas are being created for users in the foyer and on each floor.
Girsberger Customized Furniture produced suitable round tables with matching chairs for these, based on designs by Boltshauser Architekten. Stackable seats, stools and tables for the restaurant were also produced according to the architects' designs.
The steel frames, which were mass-produced, are transparent powder-coated. This means that the welded joints are still tangible despite having long-lasting protection against corrosion. Solid oak was used for the table tops, while the seats and backs of the 340 chairs were created with moulded plywood shells and a covering layer of oak. The wood surfaces were treated with lime, and fine leather was chosen for the chairs in the lounge areas.
