Helping clean up the oceans
Poseidon, the new addition to our range, is an environmentally friendly fabric that comes in a wide selection of colours. The yarn for the fabric is made from 100% recycled polyester that incorporates plastic waste from the ocean. This plastic waste is collected and recycled by approved partners of the SEAQUAL INITIATIVE organisation. The waste is used to make SEAQUAL® YARN, which contains around 10% upcycled marine plastic and 90% post-consumer PET from land-based sources.
This new introduction is an expression of our commitment to the circular economy and one of the most pressing environmental issues of our time – the pollution of the oceans with plastic waste. The SEAQUAL INITIATIVE states that, for every kilogram of yarn produced, an average of 0.6 to 1.0 kilograms of ocean waste are removed from the oceans.
Poseidon is not only appealing from an environmental perspective, it also has a natural-looking texture and feel that is very similar to wool. Poseidon is particularly recommended for those looking for a cosy, natural-looking upholstery fabric that is nevertheless robust and fully suitable for commercial use.
The SEAQUAL INITIATIVE is a global organization and works with fishermen, NGOs, communities, authorities, industry and brands to free our oceans and coasts of marine waste.
Each year, more than 8 million tonnes of plastic end up in our oceans. By 2050, there will be more plastic in the sea than fish. Marine animals swallow or eat plastics. These plastics then get into humans through the food chain.
