Environmental responsibility

Thinking circular, conserving resources

Girsberger strives to develop innovative, durable, high-quality furniture in line with the principles of the circular economy, thereby creating new to set market trends and ensure the company’s long-term competitiveness. The focus is on the development and manufacture of products and services which, in addition to their outstanding quality, also impress with their long service life. Product development, production, sales, after-sales service and Second Life solutions contribute to we help to maximize the service life of our products.

Circular economy

With every new product we develop, our aim is to ensure maximum usability and longevity through timeless design, high-quality materials, robust modular construction and comprehensive service provision.

Our aim is to act in an environmentally friendly way and keep furniture in circulation. To this end, we maintain, repair, refurbish and remanufacture them. It’s about secondary use and repurposing – as well as developing new solutions that allow the cycle to start all over again.

We want to offer our customers circular furniture and we want to ensure that its value is actively maintained throughout its entire life cycle.

Responsible procurement

Whenever possible and economically viable, we source components that we do not manufacture ourselves from suppliers or producers within a radius of 600 km from our production sites. In this way, we ensure that our products are manufactured in a socially and ecologically responsible manner and that they meet our own and our customers' demands for quality and sustainability. When selecting materials, we prioritize environmental and health safety, as well as durability and high quality.  For new product ranges, we specifically focus on durable materials and recycled materials that have already been used (post-consumer materials).

Durable Design

Girsberger’s standard products are timeless and have been designed and developed to be durable, repairable, refurbishable and, to a large extent, recyclable. The subsequent separation of materials and the associated proper disposal of individual components are taken into account as early as the product development stage.

Services

Our repair and maintenance services help to extend the lifespan of Girsberger products. Experienced technicians inspect, repair and clean the furniture to a professional standard. For larger quantities, the products are assessed on site and a bespoke quotation is drawn up.

Remanufacturing

Refurbishing: Instead of throwing furniture away, we refurbish it, thereby extending its lifespan. With new upholstery, surface treatments and the replacement of worn parts, Girsberger Remanufacturing offers a manufacturer-independent, comprehensive refurbishment service for worn furniture.

Upcycling: Used pieces of furniture, or parts thereof, are transformed into entirely new furniture solutions through the use of unconventional design. Numerous upcycling projects highlight our commitment to the circular economy, regardless of the furniture’s original source. We intend to further strengthen this business area and, where possible, expand it.

Winner of the 2023 German Sustainability Award: “Extending the lifespan of furniture has a positive impact on the climate and the environment in many ways. With its inspiring remanufacturing program, Girsberger not only helps to preserve furniture, but also encourages a shift in society’s mindset.”

Climate change

Conserving resources and reducing emissions

As a manufacturing company committed to reducing negative environmental impacts, resource-efficient processes are, a key feature of responsible business practice.

Since 2007, we have been participating in the certified environmental management system in accordance with EN ISO 14001 in Endingen and Bützberg, which requires us to continuously improve our environmental performance.

Thanks to our solar power systems in Bützberg and Endingen, as well as other renewable energy sources for electricity and heat, we are already able to reduce our emissions, but we cannot eliminate them entirely. Any remaining emissions from our own energy and operational requirements are being continuously reduced and, where this is not currently possible, offset with the help of the Swiss foundation Fair Recycling.

Throughout the value chain, we must ensure greater transparency and a robust data foundation before we can begin to reduce emissions in a phased manner.
