Concert hall seating refurbished
The seating in the concert hall was in need of refurbishment after more than 40 years of intensive use, and Girsberger managed to restore all 455 folding seats during the summer break.
Thanks to its excellent acoustics the Reitstadel has enjoyed an outstanding international reputation in its current use as a concert hall since the early 1980s. It is considered to be one of the top ten chamber music halls worldwide, which also makes it a popular recording venue for renowned labels and top classical music performers.
The historic building, constructed between 1521 and 1539 and originally used as an arsenal, was given its current name in 1850 when it was used as a riding school for recruits. Destroyed during the Second World War, it was rebuilt at the end of the 1970s after a long period of ruin.
Taking the special acoustic requirements into account, Girsberger refurbished all 455 folding seats in the stalls and on the balcony of the event hall during the 2023 summer break. The seating was removed, transported to the factory and disassembled.
The wooden frames were sanded and refinished, while the upholstery was completely remade and covered with a new fabric in a similar quality and colour scheme as before. Once the upholstery had been mounted on the wooden frames, all of the folding seats were loaded back into lorries and assembled on site. All of this was achieved in just under eight weeks.
