Exhibition "Jean Tschumi Designer", Mudac, Lausanne

Exhibition "Jean Tschumi Designer"

Mudac, Lausanne, 27 February - 26 April 2026

The exhibition "Jean Tschumi Designer" focuses on the furniture designs of the great Swiss architect. He created it for Le Cèdre, the headquarters of Vaudoise Insurance in Lausanne, which he built in the 1950s. Among the exhibits are replicas of the original furniture made by Girsberger.

With the Vaudoise Insurance headquarters in Lausanne, Jean Tschumi created a true architectural masterpiece. His design - strict and nuanced at the same time - strives for transparency, lightness and openness. It is a total work of art in which architecture, art and design merge into a whole of rare harmony and exceptional quality.

The "Jean Tschumi Designer" exhibition presents these new editions - armchairs, chairs, the large marble and iron coffee table and several side tables, all made by Girsberger from original drawings - alongside the original pieces kept by Vaudoise. These sets are accompanied by extensive documentary material (photos, films, archive documents) that trace the history of the creation of the Gesamtkunstwerk and the designer's world of thought.

As part of the restoration of this iconic administration building, Vaudoise Insurance commissioned the Swiss studio BIG-GAME to recreate the furniture that Tschumi had designed especially for the building. In collaboration with Girsberger Customized Furniture the remake of the entire furniture collection by Jean Tschumi, which is now back in the building, was created.
