Restoration of school furniture

The listed special wing of the Cantonal School Zurich Oberland (KZO) dates from 1964 and needed to be upgraded to meet today’s requirements in terms of fire protection and accessibility. As part of the renovation process, the decision was made to restore the existing furniture in view of its historical value, and preserve it for future use by the grammar school.

The Cantonal School Zurich Oberland has seen many generations of students come and go over the years, and the furniture from the practice-based classrooms has plenty of stories to tell. The school premises as a whole form part of the list of protected cantonal sites.

Rooms for the subjects of physics, chemistry, biology and art are located over several floors – with a focus on experimentation and creativity throughout. The chairs, display cabinets, cupboards and drawer units in the classrooms are made of high-quality wood, and served as the basis for an extensive restoration process. Girsberger’s Remanufacturing experts were tasked with preserving these valued furniture items.

The restored seating includes various chair models from the 50s and 60s, as well as 4-leg stools, all of which were produced in Switzerland.

The drawer units in the art and craft rooms have been thoroughly restored, with both the units and the drawers being sanded and re-varnished.
