Upcycling project: New furniture from old

Ongoing digitalisation and increasing mobility over the past ten years have had a huge influence on the demand for office workplaces. Swisscom responded with a sustainable solution, using its existing inventory to transform old furniture into new models.

What to do with all the unused furniture being held in storage? The Corporate Real Estate Management team designed its own furniture line based on existing resources, as part of an ongoing process in collaboration with designer Björn Ischi and Girsberger. A “Step-in Area” has been created as a real-life furniture catalogue, where departments wishing to reorganise their space, or locations earmarked for redesign in terms of functionality, lifecycle aspects and branding over the next few years can come and view the options available.

Nowadays, when colleagues come together at a company’s office location the focus is mainly on mobility, teamwork, workshops and branding.

Used furniture as a resource: setting an example The resulting workspaces are making a positive impact and have been extremely well received.

The aim of the exercise is to offer a sustainable solution through upcycled furniture with a clearly positive carbon footprint. The resulting furniture models can be ordered on demand and produced by Girsberger. A further alignment with the colours of the Swisscom CI is also planned.
